Roarbank Credit Card Review 2026: Fees, Benefits & Cashback

Black Roarbank RuPay credit card by Unity Small Finance Bank with the UPI logo and a cricket-playing lion mascot

Most credit cards want something from you before they give you anything: a joining fee, a salary slip, a decent credit history. The Roarbank Credit Card, issued by Unity Small Finance Bank, makes the opposite pitch. It is a black RuPay card with no joining or annual fee, a credit limit that can reach ₹3 lakh, a savings account bundled in the same app, and the ability to pay through UPI by QR code.

That is an attractive package for someone who has never held a credit card, or who lives inside Google Pay and PhonePe. But a lifetime-free card is not a free loan. This Roarbank Credit Card review in India goes through the published tariff, FAQs and feature pages line by line, flags the places where the bank’s own pages disagree, and tells you who should and should not apply.

Quick verdict

Worth a look if you will clear the full bill every month, like paying by UPI, and want a no-fee starter card. Think twice if you may carry a balance (39.6% a year), plan to use it abroad (3.5% forex fee), or want to withdraw cash against the credit limit (3.5% fee plus interest). The headline “up to 20% cashback” depends on categories you pick each month, capped at ₹2,500 monthly, and the category-wise rates are not printed on the pages we checked.

Our 5 review points (tap a star)

These are editorial observations drawn from Roarbank’s published terms. They are not customer reviews or satisfaction scores, and we have not tested the card.

Roarbank Credit Card: Quick Overview

What Is the Roarbank Credit Card?

Roarbank describes itself as a 2-in-1 product: a credit card with a savings account attached, both handled in one mobile app. The app shows a single combined balance. In the sample screen on this page, for instance, a ₹50,000 savings balance and a ₹3,00,000 credit limit add up to ₹3,50,000 of spending power.

It helps to keep the two pots apart in your head. The savings balance is your own money. The credit limit is the bank’s money, lent to you for a short period. Spending your own money from this card is free of interest. Spending the credit limit is only free if you repay the bill in full on time. The tariff reflects that split: withdrawing your own money from an ATM in India costs nothing, while withdrawing credit funds costs 3.5%.

One practical point we could not confirm: how the app decides which pot funds a particular swipe when both have money in them. Check this in the app, because it affects when interest and cashback rules come into play.

Because the card is a credit card, ATMs ask you to choose “Credit Account” even when you are taking out your own savings. Roarbank notes this on its payments page, and it is the kind of small quirk that surprises first-time users.

Roarbank Credit Card Features and Benefits

Lifetime-free pricing

Roarbank advertises no joining fee and no annual fee, and its tariff lists issuance, registration, delivery, service charge and renewal as free. Digital statements and SMS or in-app alerts are free too. That covers the cost of owning the card. It does not cover the cost of using it badly, which we get to in the fees section.

RuPay on UPI

You can add the card to a UPI app and pay by scanning merchant QR codes. The bank also describes online and in-store use. We cover the steps and limits in the UPI section below.

Credit limit of up to ₹3 lakh

“Up to” is doing real work here. Roarbank says your limit depends on your profile and eligibility. New or thin-file users may begin with a smaller “Starter” limit. The bank’s own example is a ₹20,000 starter limit that becomes eligible for an increase after four or five cycles of using it and repaying fully. Treat that as an illustration, not a promise.

Up to 62 days interest-free

The 62 days is a best case. It applies to a purchase made at the very start of a billing cycle, when you then repay the whole bill by the due date. A purchase made late in the cycle gets a shorter gap.

Monthly cashback categories

You pick two categories each month in the Rewards tab. The bank says cashback lands in your Roarbank balance as money, not points. Details and caveats are in the cashback section.

Virtual card and online or in-store payments

A virtual card is available in the app straight after approval, so you can start spending before the physical card arrives. The physical card is activated in the app, where you also set the PIN.

EMI conversion

Eligible transactions of ₹2,000 or more can be converted into EMIs of 2 to 24 months. The EMI is adjusted against your credit limit, and each instalment becomes part of your minimum and total due.

Spending analytics, controls and statements

The app breaks spending into categories and recipients over a chosen period, which is handy if you are new to tracking money. For safety, Roarbank lists PIN protection, instant card block and unblock, transaction limit controls, a private mode, and in-app card management. Statements are digital.

Savings account interest

The bundled savings account pays interest in three slabs (4.5%, 6% and 7%, rising with balance). The bank says interest is calculated under applicable banking norms, so ask how it is credited before parking large sums.

There is also a “Shake to Pay” feature for sending money to people nearby, and a 7-second window to cancel a payment you have just sent. These are conveniences, not reasons to pick a card.

Roarbank Credit Card Fees and Charges

This table is built from the bank’s tariff page, which we treated as the latest applicable schedule. We could not open the credit card MITC document itself because the bank’s site blocks automated access, so anything that only the MITC would settle is marked. Only charges that apply to this card are listed.

Roarbank email titled We are updating credit card terms, explaining new late payment charges from October 1, 2026
Roarbank’s customer email on the late payment charge update (personal name removed).

Late fee update from 1 October 2026

Roarbank emailed cardholders about a change in late payment charges. Small limits (below ₹5,000) now pay a flat ₹100 instead of a ₹750 minimum. Larger limits stay at 2% of unpaid dues with a ₹750 floor, and the charge is now capped at ₹1,200. The email adds that the fee applies only if you miss the Minimum Amount Due, and that a section on dispute resolution was added to the terms.

What “lifetime free” does and does not mean

  • Free ownership: no joining, annual, renewal, issuance or delivery fee.
  • Transaction-specific charges: forex 3.5%, credit-fund ATM 3.5%, card-to-card credit transfer 0.2%, and 1% on heavy fuel, wallet or utility spending.
  • Interest: 39.6% a year when dues are not cleared in the interest-free window.
  • Penalties: late payment charges when the minimum due is missed.

The bank’s general FAQ says bill payments and mobile recharges are free and that there are no hidden charges. That is true in the sense that the fees are published. It should not be read as “nothing ever costs extra”, since the tariff lists the 1% category charges above.

Roarbank Credit Card Interest Rate Explained

The rate is 3.3% per month, or 39.6% per annum. It is charged on the outstanding amount when you do not clear the total due inside the interest-free period. According to Roarbank’s credit limit guide, charges are counted from the transaction date, not from the due date. In plain terms: if you slip, the interest-free benefit on that spend can disappear, not just pause.

To stay interest-free, the tariff says the previous month’s total dues must be paid in full at least three days before the end of the current month. The guide’s own examples show a due date a few days before the statement month ends, so always read the due date printed on your statement rather than assuming the 30th.

Paying only the minimum does not avoid interest. The Minimum Amount Due (5% of the bill, at least ₹500) only keeps you clear of the late fee. Everything left over keeps attracting interest.

An illustration (not an official calculation)

Say you spend ₹20,000 in a cycle and pay only the minimum, which is 5%, or ₹1,000. About ₹19,000 stays outstanding. At 3.3% a month, a rough month of interest on that balance is around ₹627, and you also lose the interest-free treatment on the purchases. If you had paid nothing at all and your limit is ₹5,000 or above, the late fee would be 2% of the unpaid ₹20,000, which is ₹400, so the ₹750 minimum applies, plus GST. The exact figures depend on dates, how payments are allocated and the MITC.

Try your own numbers in the calculator below.

Simple illustration using the published 3.3% monthly rate, 5% MAD (min ₹500) and late fee slabs. No compounding, no GST, no reward effects. Not a bank calculation.

Roarbank Credit Card Cashback Review

Cashback is the main reason people look at this card, and also where the marketing runs ahead of the detail.

  • How it works: each month you choose two categories in the app’s Rewards tab. Purchases in those categories can earn “up to 20%”.
  • What “up to 20%” means: a ceiling for a category in a month, not a rate on everything you buy. The category-wise percentages are not listed on the public pages we read, so you only see the real rate once you are inside the app.
  • Cap: Roarbank states the most you can accumulate in a month is ₹2,500. At a 20% rate, you would reach that cap on ₹12,500 of eligible spend.
  • Credit: the bank says cashback arrives instantly after purchase and shows up as real money in your Roarbank balance, with a push notification.
  • Use: once you have ₹250 of cashback you can withdraw it to repay your credit card bill. The credit card FAQ separately says cashback is adjusted against your card balance and lowers the next bill.
  • Where it applies: the cashback page speaks of purchases “at the points of sale” for selected categories, and also says cashback works globally in your chosen categories. Whether UPI-routed payments earn the same cashback is not confirmed.
  • Not confirmed: minimum spends, category exclusions, expiry of unclaimed cashback, and the way the ₹250 withdrawal threshold and the automatic bill adjustment fit together.

Our advice is practical. Before applying, look at your last three months of spending. If most of it falls in two categories that the app is likely to offer, the card could return a few hundred rupees a month. If your spending is scattered, treat any cashback as a bonus and judge the card on its fees and flexibility instead.

Roarbank Credit Card and UPI Payments

The card is a RuPay credit card, which is what allows it to be linked to UPI apps. Roarbank’s instructions for adding it are short:

  1. Open a UPI app such as Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm.
  2. Choose the option to add a (RuPay credit) card and search for “Unity Small Finance Bank”.
  3. Add the Roarbank card and set your UPI PIN for the card.
  4. Complete the authentication the app asks for, then scan merchant QR codes to pay.

The bank’s FAQ gives a Google Pay walk-through with the same pattern: Payment methods, add RuPay credit card, pick Unity Small Finance Bank, verify and set up for UPI.

Merchant payments versus sending money to people. The bank describes credit-card UPI as QR scanning, online shopping and in-store payment, which means merchant payments. Moving money to a person is a different thing: Roarbank handles that inside its own app, free from your personal funds, while sending credit funds to another bank card costs 0.2%. Not every merchant, UPI app or transaction type will accept a credit-card-funded UPI payment, and per-transaction limits depend on NPCI rules, the app and the issuer. Roarbank has not published those limits on the pages we reviewed, so they are not confirmed.

Roarbank Credit Card Eligibility

  • Age and citizenship: Indian citizens aged 21 to 60. Roarbank says students in this age range can apply too.
  • Credit history: the card page says none is needed. The credit limit guide, though, lists credit history “if available” among the factors, along with your profile, income indicators and internal risk checks. So “no history needed” is not “history ignored”.
  • Documents and data: mobile number, PAN and income information at the start, then KYC in the app once you are approved. Whether KYC is by video call, Aadhaar-based or another route is not confirmed on the pages we read.
  • Phone: you need an Android or iOS smartphone to become a customer.
  • Limit: decided by assessment. Repayment history, usage and behaviour can lead to higher limits over time.

Approval is never guaranteed, and a first-time user should not expect to land the ₹3 lakh ceiling.

How to Apply for the Roarbank Credit Card

  1. Download the Roarbank app from the Play Store or App Store using the links on the official credit card page.
  2. Register with your mobile number.
  3. Enter your PAN and income details and any personal information requested.
  4. Complete identity verification and KYC in the app.
  5. Wait for the eligibility assessment. The bank advertises an instant limit, but we would not count on instant approval for every applicant.
  6. Review the limit and terms offered to you, including the tariff and MITC, before accepting.
  7. Activate the card. The physical card is activated in the app with a PIN once it arrives.
  8. Use the virtual card in the meantime, where it is available to you.

Apply only through the official app or website. Delivery timelines are not published, so we make no promise on them.

How to Pay the Roarbank Credit Card Bill

  • Roarbank app: use Fund / Repay on the home screen. The bank says money can come from any Indian bank account or popular payment apps.
  • UPI-enabled apps: listed as an option in the FAQ.
  • Bank transfer: send money from a linked bank account using the account details the app gives you.

Open your statement, note the total amount due and the due date, and pay the total if you want the interest-free benefit. Afterwards, check that the payment shows in the app and that the outstanding balance has dropped. Any cashback you have earned is adjusted against the balance, so the figure may look different from your last statement. Not every method may work in every situation, so keep a second option ready near the due date.

Roarbank Credit Card Pros and Cons

AdvantagesDisadvantages and limits

Roarbank Credit Card vs Other Cards

For a fair comparison we picked two lifetime-free RuPay UPI cards that beginners often consider. We checked the issuer or program pages and did not fill gaps with guesses. Where the issuer page does not give a figure, the table says so.

Roarbank (Unity SFB)Axis Bank super.money RuPayKiwi RuPay credit card

Other charges notedForex 3.5%; credit ATM 3.5%; 1% on heavy fuel/wallet/utility1% fuel surcharge waiver mentioned by AxisNot verified

What this tells you: Roarbank’s difference is the bundled savings account and the monthly category model. The other two are simpler: a flat or app-specific UPI rate. We have not seen proof that Roarbank is better than either, and a card that suits a UPI-heavy person may not suit someone who shops on a handful of categories. Compare the actual rate you would earn on your own spending, and read the competitor’s current terms before deciding.

Is the Roarbank Credit Card Worth It?

First-time users

A no-fee card with a starter limit is a gentle way to begin, if you set up autopay discipline and clear the whole bill. Do not treat the limit as income.

Regular UPI merchant payers

Useful as a second payment option in your UPI app. Check that your usual merchants accept credit-based UPI and whether those payments earn cashback.

Cashback hunters

Only if your spend lines up with the monthly categories. The ₹2,500 cap and unpublished rates mean you should test it for a month or two.

Emergency borrowing

An expensive route. Credit ATM cash costs 3.5% up front plus interest at 3.3% a month. Compare with other options first.

Frequent international travellers

A 3.5% forex fee and conflicting guidance on foreign use make this a poor primary travel card. Look elsewhere.

People who carry balances

Avoid. At 39.6% a year, a lifetime-free card quickly becomes costly, and late fees can stack on top.

This is general information, not personal borrowing advice, and no card or limit is guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Roarbank Credit Card lifetime free?

3.3% per month, or 39.6% per annum, on balances that are not cleared within the interest-free period.

Yes. It is a RuPay credit card on UPI and can be added to compatible apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm for merchant QR payments. Acceptance and limits depend on the app, the merchant and issuer settings.
Is cashback available on all purchases?
No. Cashback is for the categories you choose each month, up to 20%, with a stated monthly maximum of ₹2,500. Rates are shown in the app.
Can a first-time credit card user apply?
Yes. The bank says no credit history is needed and that first-time users can apply, though approval and the limit are still assessed individually. Age 21 to 60 and Indian citizenship are required.
What are the late payment charges?

No annual fee is advertised, and renewal is listed as free.

Final Verdict

The Roarbank Credit Card is a sensible starter product with a clear promise: no fee to hold, a limit you can grow, UPI payments and cashback you can see in rupees. Its weak spots are the usual ones for any lifetime-free card with a high rate: 39.6% interest, 3.5% charges on cash and foreign spending, and rewards that depend on conditions you only see once you are in the app. Add to that a few places where the bank’s own pages do not line up, such as international use and the “no extra charge” wording.

It may suit first-time borrowers who clear the bill in full, UPI-first shoppers, and people who like to see savings and credit in one place. Compare alternatives if you travel abroad, want cash access, expect to carry a balance, or want a flat, predictable reward rate.

Before you apply, read the current tariffs, the credit card MITC, and the Key Fact Statement on the official site, and decide whether the rules fit how you actually spend.

How We Researched This Review

We read the Roarbank pages for the card, tariffs, cashback, payments, credit limit guide, and the general and credit card FAQs on 25 October 2026. When two pages differed, we used the tariff page as the fee authority and marked the conflict. We could not open the MITC PDF because the site restricts automated access, so we did not rely on it. We did not apply for or test the card, and nothing here is a customer experience. Competitor details come from the issuer or program pages; where they were not verifiable we say so. Quotes from the bank are avoided; explanations are in our own words.
